Steib Metallbau, later trading as Josef Steib Spezialfabrik für Seitenwagen, manufactured high-quality sidecars from its factory in Nuremberg. The firm was founded in 1914 by Josef Steib Sr. and began making sidecars including the LS200, S350, S500, and TR500 from 1928 following a commission from the motorcycle manufacturer Ardie. The company ceased trading in 1957. Their designs were popular for a variety of motorcycles and are now sought after by collectors and enthusiasts.
Recently unearthed after many years of dry storage, this handsome c.1950 Steib sidecar is offered for restoration. It would make a wonderful accompaniment to a large bike of the period, such as a Vincent or an Ariel Square Four, though it would perhaps be most at home on a big BMW. It rolls with ease and is to be sold at no reserve.
