Lot details

Chassis No: SA9CXXG32AL036025
Mot Expiry: June 2007

Borne of the same post-WW2 special-building tradition as Lotus, Marcos and TVR, Ginetta was founded in 1958 by the four Walklett brothers. Although, best known for their sports racer and kit car designs, the quartet also produced a series of fully type approved road cars that culminated in the G32 of 1989 (the same year they sold out to Martin Phaff). Based around a steel chassis equipped with all-round independent suspension (double-wishbone front / McPherson strut rear), rack and pinion steering and four-wheel disc brakes, the G32 wore lightweight fibreglass bodywork. Sourced from the Ford XR range, its mid-mounted fuel-injected 1.6 litre four-cylinder engine was allied to five-speed manual transmission. Credited with some 108bhp and 102lbft of torque, the two-door notchback coupe was reputedly capable of 0-60mph in 7.5 seconds and 128 mph. Fun to drive and cheap to maintain, the model spawned convertible and turbocharged variants but never became a big seller. With a basic price of £14,487, it was too easily undercut by rivals such as the Toyota MR2. Only in production for four years, just 115 G32 coupes are thought to have been made.
Finished in yellow with grey cloth upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in "very good" condition with regard to its engine, gearbox, electrical equipment, interior trim, chassis, bodywork, paintwork and wheels / tyres. Reportedly "excellent to drive", it is stated to have covered just 28,350 miles from new. Riding on alloy wheels, this rare sports coupe is offered for sale with MOT certificate valid until June 21st 2007.
