Pip Higham is a highly respected former motorcycle dealer, classic magazine columnist and record breaking drag racer who was inducted into the British Drag Racing Hall of Fame in 2017 after his exploits throughout his career. The background for all this success was Pip’s own business, the ‘Village Bike Shop’ in Manchester, where he provided a service for those who wished to go that little bit quicker than the rest. The quest for more performance saw him develope mainly Suzuki based specials, racing in the Streetbike class across Europe and ultimately America, becoming the first European into the ten second bracket and then the first rider ever into the nines. ‘The Deuce’, a VBS development producing 160 bhp using Pip’s own tuning parts, ran in the nine second bracket many times at terminal speeds up to 154 mph for the quarter mile. A lifelong motorcycle enthusiast Pip has also restored many bikes, especially Ducati singles, to a very high standard, sometimes incorporating subtle little modifications to improve performance.
This beautifully presented Ducati, being offered at 'no reserve', has been excellently restored by Pip using his many years of experience. In his own words....'Considered by many to be Ing.Taglioni’s finest creation, this super early 175 has never seen action since it underwent a comprehensive restoration job with the steel mudguards, toolboxes and fuel tank paintwork by Pete Priest. Its early model identified by the ‘Pressed’ front downtube, the ‘bolt on’ rear loop and the swaged style rear footrest mountings, those with a keen eye might also spot the significantly different front forks, yokes and headlamp brackets, they just don’t exist, so when the opportunity to buy them came up I dug deep and added some more parts to the ‘never again’ bucket list. The ‘Jelly Mould’ tank is in perfect ‘Never Seen Ethanol’ condition, the hubs are all correct, OEM Barruzzo steel rims (18 inch) are installed with new tyres and plated, not stainless spokes. The one debatable departure from standard trim is the fitment of the Dell Orto SSi 27A ‘Green Label’ carb, originally it would have had a strangulating UB24 Dellorto, but I really like the 27mm SSi! There are many more intriguing features and rare parts on this typically Italian curvaceous bike'. Having not had time to complete the registration process, it is supplied with a NOVA number and all the paperwork needed to aid registration with DVLA.
