After the war, Japan had a need for cheap reliable transport so Suzuki, like a lot of others around the world, began to produce clip-on engines for pushbikes. Soon they were making full motorcycles, and by the early 1960s were second only to Honda in numbers of two-wheelers manufactured. Named for its advanced six-speed gearbox, the T20 Super Six was launched for the 1966 model year and remained in production until 1968. Powered by a 247cc two-stroke twin, its other innovative feature was its Posi-Force oil-injection system, which involved coupling the oil pump to the throttle to supply the cylinders with the optimum oil-fuel mixture. Weighing around 300lbs and producing a claimed 29bhp, it was said to be capable of 94mph and achieved much success in racing.
Little is known of the history of this very early, 1965-built T20, except that it was restored some years ago when it formed part of the previous owner’s private collection. It was registered with the DVLA upon being purchased by the vendor in 2023 and has been brought up to running order, though further recommissioning will be required before it is fully roadworthy. Displaying a light patina and offered at no reserve, it is supplied with the V5C and a handbook.
