Greeves Motorcycles was founded by Bert Greeves in 1951 and produced a range of road machines and later competition mounts for trials, scrambles and road racing. The original company produced motorcycles from 1952, funded by a contract with the Ministry of Pensions for their Invacar, a three-wheeler for disabled drivers originally conceived for Bert’s disabled cousin and sales manager Preston Derry-Cobb. Using some of the knowledge and production techniques gained from the Invacar and utilising Villiers-supplied engines, they went on to great success in off-road competition, including Dave Bickers’ victories in the 1960 and 1961 European Scrambles World Championship.
This attractive 1966 Greeves 25DC Sports Twin was purchased as a restoration project by the vendor in 2010, having been stored since 1971. He set about a full restoration of the 25DC to a good standard and during the restoration he managed to reclaim its original registration number through the DVLA using the old buff logbook and an old tax disc. Last used approximately two years ago, it will need some light recommissioning before it goes back on the road. The Greeves is accompanied by a current V5C, the RF60 logbook, DVLA correspondence and images of the bike 'as purchased'.
