FB Mondial was founded in Milan in 1929 by the Boselli family, with the FB in the company name derived from 'Fratelli Boselli', the Boselli brothers in English. They are best known for their domination of the Motorcycle World Championships between 1949 and 1957 in the 125 and 250cc classes. The firm produced some of the most advanced and successful Grand Prix road racers of the time, winning five rider and five manufacturer World Championships in that short period with riders such as Carlo Ubbiali and Tarquinio Provini. In 1957, Soichiro Honda approached Mondial owner Count Boselli with a request to purchase a Mondial racebike with which the firm had just won the 125 cc and 250 cc world titles. Count Boselli gave Mr. Honda a racing Mondial that was used as a benchmark for the standard of engineering needed to compete on a world scale. To return the favour, in 1999, a reborn Modial was allowed to use the Honda RC51 engine in its Piega 1000, the only time Honda sanctioned the use of its engines in another company's vehicle.
The 1951 Mondial Sport is a 125cc road bike inspired by the world championship winning racer that dominated the 125cc class in the 1950s. Featuring a parallelogram blade type front fork, plunger rear suspension, low bars and finished in classic silver and blue paintwork, it's a typically Italian, beautiful looking sports bike from the era. This example, being offered at no reserve, is thought to have been restored in Italy in the past and has been part of an Italian enthusiast's small private collection for the last couple of years. A very rare bike on these shores, it would be a fantastic addition to any collection and an interesting mount for classic events such as the Moto Giro d'Italia and the Milan-Taranto.
