Lot 20

1954 Ford Zephyr 6

Estimated at £4,000 - £5,000

Lot details
Registration No: OGH 227
Chassis No: E0TTA54567
Mot Expiry: None

Ford retained the Zephyr moniker for 22 years. The MkI version made its debut at the 1950 Earls Court Motorshow and was effectively a lengthened version of its four-cylinder Consul sibling, powered by a 2262cc straight-six engine of 68bhp output. These Fords were the first mass-produced cars to feature the now common MacPherson strut system for their front suspension, but employed the traditional live axle and semi-elliptic leaf spring set-up at the rear. The model was available as a four-door Saloon or Estate or as a two-door Convertible. The Saloon sold well, with 148,629 being produced before the MKI was superseded by the altogether larger MKII in 1956. It also proved itself in the heat of competition, winning both the 1953 Monte Carlo Rally and the 1955 East African Safari Rally. When tested by Motor magazine, a MKI achieved the 0-60mph sprint in 20.2 seconds and accelerated on to a top speed of just under 80mph.

The Zephyr being sold was manufactured in 1954 and is finished in Green allied to a Beige interior. The vendor informs us that the engine is "mint", the bodywork and paintwork "very good", the three-speed manual gearbox "good" and the interior "genuine". It is understood 'OGH 227' will have a fresh MOT by the time of the sale.

PLEASE NOTE: This vehicle does not have an MOT.
