The 1960's proved to be a difficult period for the Italian motorcycle industry with many of the established smaller manufacturers ceasing production and the larger manufacturers struggling. Partly this was due to a decline in demand brought about by the availability of cheap cars and partly as a result of the reluctance of manufacturers to develop new models that reflected the changing fashions. Benelli had entered the 1960's with a well developed range of lightweight four stroke singles but as the decade progressed realised that a new family of lightweight machines were required and consequently commenced development of a pair of two stroke twins. The new models were eventually introduced to the market following Benelli's acquisition by De Tomaso during 1971. The new models were offered in 125 and 250 form with the larger example having a bore and stroke of 56 x 47mm giving an actual displacement of 231.4cc and a power output of 25bhp. Both models featured iron barrels on horizontally split crankcases with flywheel electronic magneto ignition and six volt electrics, a five speed transmission and petroil lubrication. The cycle parts followed contemporary trends with a duplex frame equipped with pivoted fork rear suspension, drum brakes and slimline telescopic forks.
This early example of the drum braked 250cc 2C is attractively presented to a high standard having been restored in a green and black livery and is offered with Spanish papers.
