The Lambretta TV175 series 3 was launched in March 1962 and it was the first scooter supplied with an internal disc brake. It was a remarkable change from the previous TV175 series 2 with new sleek slim styling. The TV series 3 also had larger silent blocks than the previous engines and it had a very good reputation as a smooth and well-balanced scooter with great handling attributes. The larger engined TV200 quickly followed in early 1963 at the specific request of the British importer Lambretta Concessionaires who wanted an even more powerful model to satisfy their customer base. Genuine TV200 Lambrettas were instantly recognised as the GT200 to differentiate them from the TV175 models.

This example of a genuine GT200 was first registered in West London and bought in by Speedway of Acton. It was then sold to our clients relative on 16th July 1966 and was in his ownership ever since. She has always been in West London and was owned by a real West London Mod. This is from a deceased estate. Our clients wish to keep the name of the original owner private at this time but it is inevitable that the purchaser will discover this by way of the supplied documents. The documents tell a story of a young West London mod who bought the scooter on the ‘never never’ and his HP payment book is supplied along with magistrates summons for speeding, riding on a prohibited road, and riding without insurance. The owner was extremely well connected in the London mod scene but the family wishes that also to be kept private. These papers form the story of the time and should be of major interest to a collector of Mod scooters or someone who wants the provenance of that. These will all be supplied with the scooter.

There is so much originality around this example that was stored under some stairs for over 30 years and is almost complete save the side panels, silencer, bridge piece and tool box door. At some time the scooter was partly dismantled although it appears the engine was not removed. In true mod style she comes with an original Speedway of Acton metal dealer badge and has the STP oil sticker both collectors items in their own right. She was always stored indoors and there is no rot or rust visible anywhere and she has been partly painted in Red primer in many places. The speedometer is the original showing 15071 miles although its face is missing. The ignition is an original replacement as we have found the original factory one with a key stuck inside it. The gears and engine turn and amazingly the original tyres inflated and held their pressure. The scooter also comes with the owner's original helmet and original Lambretta key ring with period Schweppes bottle opener and Watneys barrel. Also supplied are a number of parts including the original side panel flashes, badges and handles and other useful parts. There is also the original rear carrier and spare wheel rims. The history file and memorabilia that accompanies the scooter is impressive and our consultant felt a real feeling of time travel back to the clubs and lifestyle of the West London mod scene. We expect significant interest in this incredible part of history lived through a scooter.
