Lambretta scooters had been built under license in India since the 1950’s however in 1972 the state owned company SIL (Scooters India limited) was able to buy the production tooling from Innocenti outright following the Italian company demise. There was still demand for Lambrettas in the UK for the GP models in the 1970’s which were not supplied by the still active Spanish manufacturer Serveta. The SIL GP150 was regarded as a very good scooter particularly if maintained well.

Very few people involved in the British scooter scene from the 1980’s on would not have known of or met ‘Mr Lambretta’ Kev Walsh. It is said if it were not for him the Lambretta Club of Great Britain would not have survived out of the 1970’s or thrived to its current healthy and popular state. He was an active member of a number of scooter clubs in the north west of England, wrote numerous columns in several magazines, co-organised rallies and also organised scooter parts fairs across the UK for decades. Kev was made life member number 2 of the LCGB but sadly passed away in 2018.

This GP150 was his ‘rally bike’ believed to have been one owner with Kev Walsh owning it from new. It was completely personalised in LCGB livery and British colours and would have been seen at dozens of national rallies from the 1980’s on. The personalised decor includes a superb chrome ‘Lambretta Club Great Britain’ leg shield badge, personalised vinyl named transfers, a rare LCGB spare wheel cover (these were made by Julie Tudor who also made a range of panniers and other luggage bags which are now collectible in their own right). There are also special chrome plaques on the side panel inlays. The scooter has a large leg shield box accessory addition (no key), slope back seat and side panel locks. She is in good overall condition. After many years of being stood the engine started easily and our consultant was able to ride the scooter and all worked well. The registration number however was changed in 2003. Keys are present and there are a number of MOT’s from 2014-2018. The mileage cannot be verified but this was an active rally-going and regularly used machine. This scooter really is an amazing part of original British scootering history, not a recent tribute, and is homage to the Lambretta Club Of Great Britain.
