Introduced for the 1925 season, the 12/25 was a well-engineered, solidly built design that furthered Humber's reputation as a quality marque. Based around a conventional ladder-frame chassis with a 9ft 1in wheelbase and 4ft 7in track, it featured all round semi-elliptic leaf-sprung suspension and drum brakes. Rated at 12hp by the treasury, its 1795cc, four-cylinder engine utilised overhead inlet and side exhaust valves. Producing some 25hp @ 3,000rpm, this torquey unit reputedly gave the model a top speed of 54mph. A reflection of its greater merit and finesse, the Humber cost up to fifty per cent more than the equivalent Austin or Morris. Only in production for two years surviving 12/25s are a rarity.

Finished in Maroon over Black with Black upholstery, ‘WC 1312’ presents as an older restoration. Variously described by the vendor as being in ‘scruffy’ (brush paintwork, interior trim), ‘average’ (engine, gearbox, electrical equipment) or ‘good’ (bodywork) condition, the Humber boasts an Auster screen and full weather equipment (the latter incorporating hinged sidescreens). Recently loaned to a friend for a rally, the 12/25 is summed-up by the seller as ‘a car to use and improve’.

PLEASE NOTE:

This lot is accompanied by its original buff logbook (and two continuation ones). First owned by William A. Draycott of Fulwood, near Preston, it subsequently passed through the hands of Harry Martin, Reginald Smithies, Wilfrid Park and Charles Kinleside in the lead-up to World War Two. Accompanying copy black and white photos show the car in regular use during the 1950s and 1960s, while the earliest invoices on file date back to 1991. Upgraded with an SU electric fuel pump, the Humber was sold via Vintage & Classic Car Specialist Robin Lawton for £11,500 in March 2020. Entering the current ownership the following year, the 12/25 has formed part of a private collection of Veteran and Vintage cars which is now being downsized. The vendor advises us that the dynastart requires attention.
