1966 Jaguar E-Type 4.2 Roadster

Estimated at £22,000 - £26,000

Lot details

Registration No: Un-Registered
Chassis No: 1E 14117
MOT: Exempt

  • Manufactured on November 14th 1966 and despatched to Jaguar Cars, New York the following month
  • Repatriated from South Carolina in 2009 and subsequently NOVA declared with all duties paid
  • Entrusted to Philip Jordan Racing of Skegness with instructions to reconfigure it for competition usage
  • A stalled project accompanied by assorted parts and invoices

Driven by the likes of Graham Hill, Roy Salvadori and Bruce McLaren, Jaguar’s Series 1 E-Type Roadster won on its competitive debut. Some sixty-five years later, it continues to impress at historic race meetings such as the Goodwood Revival.

According to its accompanying Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Trace Certificate, chassis 1E14117 was completed on November 24th 1966 to left-hand drive specification. Originally finished in Opalescent Maroon with Black leather upholstery and a Black soft-top, the Series 1 4.2 Litre Roadster was dispatched to Jaguar Cars, New York the following month. Repatriated from South Carolina, USA during 2009, the two-seater has since been NOVA declared with all relevant duties paid (meaning that UK road registration should be relatively straightforward). Entrusted to the Philip Jordan Racing Team of Skegness with instructions that it be prepared for competition usage, the Jaguar is said to have benefited from new floorpans, sills and various other Martin Robey replacement panels. The front subframe has been renewed and a USA-specification 4.2 litre engine installed. Fuelled via twin Stromberg carburettors, the straight-six is reportedly allied to a close-ratio four-speed manual gearbox. The bonnet is a replacement item and the rear wheelarches have been flared to allow the fitment of wider wheels / tyres. As can be seen from the photos, the project has lost momentum. The front suspension has been lowered but the rear has yet to be recalibrated. The now RHD E-Type is understood to come with a variety of parts which should help its completion including: a stainless-steel exhaust system, refurbished radiator, partially renewed wiring loom, fuel pump / new fuel lines, side windows, brake discs / callipers, seat covers / carpets, pedals, light lenses and Vredstein tyres. Surely worthy of a return to road or track, this tempting Series 1 Roadster is offered for sale with the aforementioned NOVA paperwork and sundry invoices.
