  • Extensively restored from 1994 - 2013 at a cost of over £20,000 as chronicled via three accompanying photo albums and numerous invoices etc
  • Partial history including usage by a medical officer during WW2
  • Finished in handsome Sage Green over Black with Green leather upholstery
  • Said to be 'much admired when out and about'
  • A rare survivor

For the 1939 model year, Rover added a two door Coupe version of the '10' (10hp) model, sometimes referred to as a Doctor's Coupe. Motive power for the pretty Rover Coupe was facilitated by a 1389cc, OHV pushrod, 10hp four-cylinder engine fitted with an SU carburettor and a four-speed gearbox with a freewheel. Just 250 were built in 1938 (1939 model year) and 525 built in total between 1938 and 1940, before civilian production ended in order to move to production for the 'war effort' following the outbreak of WWII. The Coventry factory was damaged by bombing in November 1940 and when production restarted it was from the new Solihull works.

Believed to be one of only five roadworthy examples of the model known to the Rover Register and 1 of 250 built for the 1939 model year, this is a rare survivor of the marque. With history, that includes usage by a medical officer during WW2, it is finished in a handsome Sage Green over Black with a Green leather upholstery and has been described previously as 'much admired when out and about'. 1938 luxuries include a steel sliding sunroof, a rear window blind, a tool kit, semaphore trafficators, and an operational lubrication system for the suspension. In the boot, along with the spare wheel is a period Petrolex fire extinguisher dated 1938.

A most attractive variant of a Rover motor car, the Coupe has benefitted from a very comprehensive restoration between 1994 - 2013 by two enthusiast owners and at a cost in excess of £20,000. The c.20 year full and detailed photographic restoration is all chronicled in three accompanying photo albums accompanied by numerous invoices etc. Extensive work meant elements were restored or renewed, the whole rebuild being documented with countless photographs and invoices along with a notebook with detailed notes and drawings. There are three A4 files full of paperwork.

Rover was known for the quality of their vehicles of the first half of the twentieth century, particularly so in the Pre-War era, and production included a relatively low output of very stylish and understated Coupes during 1920s and 30s. Survivors are rare and 'GEV 799' offers an excellent opportunity to become the next custodian of a very elegant Rover in good order throughout.
