The first person to portray author Leslie Charteris' Simon Templar on the small screen, Roger Moore brought alive people's ideals of The Saint. In many people's imagination, the vision of Roger Moore driving a white Volvo P1800 across their television screens will always be the perfect adaptation of The Saint books. Roger was perfect for the role bringing as he did a great deal of life and gentlemanly humour to the character.

Based on a design exercise by the Swedish-born Pelle Petterson whilst working at Frua, the Volvo P1800 sports car was officially unveiled at the January 1960 Brussels Salon. When this Volvo design entered production the newcomer's sleek two-door monocoque bodyshell was equipped with independent front suspension, a coil-sprung 'live' rear axle and disc / drum brakes. Powered by a 1782cc OHV four-cylinder engine breathing through twin SU carburettors, allied to a four-speed manual gearbox, it was capable of over 100mph.
