  • A 1977 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow I, with just one owner and 604 miles from new, sells for £82,125, more than £12,000 above its lower estimate
  • Other lots stealing the show at the H&H Classics auction included a Bentley formerly owned by Jay Kay and a stunning 1980s supercar
  • The sale took place on Wednesday 17th June at Kelham Hall in Nottinghamshire with 55 classic, collector and performance motorcars finding new homes

A museum-quality 1977 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow I, with just one owner and 604 miles from new, was among the classics stealing the show when it was auctioned by H&H Classics at Kelham Hall in Nottinghamshire.

It fetched an astonishing £82,125, more than £12,000 above its lower estimate, making it the most expensive, non-celebrity owned example to ever sell at public auction.

Its sale was one of the many highlights at the auction on Wednesday 17th June which saw 55 classic, collector and performance motorcars successfully hammered away, for a combined total of over £1.7 million.

The extremely original Rolls-Royce, which has been preserved in a climate-controlled garage, has only covered just over 600 miles and much of the mileage was completed in the first few months of its life.

James McWilliam, sales manager at H&H Classics, said: “It’s no surprise that this time warp Rolls-Royce did so well when you consider its single ownership, originality and incredibly low mileage.”

Meanwhile, a Bentley, once owned by Jay Kay of Jamiroquai fame, delivered a star performance when it crossed the block.

The 2010 Bentley Brooklands Coupé, owned by the famous musician between 2019 and 2021, was hammered away for £147,375, more than £27,000 above its lower estimate.

James added: “As well as having star appeal, this superb Bentley formerly owned by Jay Kay is still low-mileage, while also being one of only 105 Brookland Coupés supplied in right-hand drive. We always thought it would attract much attention, and this was definitely the case.”

Other highlights from the auction saw a 1983 Ferrari 308 GTS Quattrovalvole, showing just 20,000 miles, find a new home for £92,250, again more than £27,000 above its lower estimate.

As well as being one of the most iconic supercars of the 1980s, the model sold by H&H Classics is one of only 233 UK-supplied, right-hand drive examples.

There were also strong performances from a wide selection of desirable British cars, not least another Rolls-Royce, this time a 1993 Rolls-Royce Corniche Convertible IV which had been in current family ownership for 30 years and sold for £100,000, exactly £10,000 above its lower estimate.

65 years on from the official launch of the Jaguar E-Type, two examples flew the homegrown classics flag and demonstrated the enduring appeal of the car. The first was a stunning 1967 Jaguar E-Type 4.2 Coupe, which was hammered away for £59,344, more than £9,000 above its lower estimate.

The second, a 1969 Jaguar E-Type 4.2 Fixed Head Coupe, which was extensively restored in 2003, sold for £34,875, almost £6,900 above its lower estimate.

Immediate post sales included the 1965 Ferrari 330 GT 2+2 ‘Interim’ that changed hands within its £180,000 - £220,000 saleroom estimate and the 1960 Aston Martin DB4 Series II which had spent much of its life ‘Down Under’.
