Sought-after British classics are among desirable models being auctioned by H&H Classics at its first ever weekend sale at the famous motor venue of Millbrook Proving Ground in Bedfordshire.
The Millbrook Sale, which has 80 classic, collector and performance motorcars going under the hammer, takes place on Sunday 10th May and as it is being held on a weekend, will see rare public access to the highly confidential and normally private facility.
One of the lots sure to attract strong bidding is a highly stylish 1934 Rolls-Royce Phantom II Continental Sedanca Coupe, estimated at £150,000-£180,000 and one of just 279 examples manufactured to Continental specification.
A previous owner was celebrated bandleader and violinist Bert Ambrose, while it has also been a prestigious Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts’ Club award winner.
Joining it at Millbrook is a splendid 1955 Aston Martin DB2/4 which has been exhaustively restored to concours condition. A desirable home-market example, and a fine illustration of one of the marque’s most elegant and historically significant early postwar models, it has been given a guide price of £80,000-£100,000.
Another extraordinary Aston Martin going under the hammer is a 1968 Aston Martin DBS ‘V8 Prototype’ expected to fetch between £75,000-£85,000. It was fitted with a Lola Aston Martin V8 development engine in 1970 and has been featured in Aston Martin books.
Also flying the homegrown flag is a 1969 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow Two-Door MPW Saloon, estimated at £40,000-£50,000. It has been treated to some £90,000 worth of maintenance and improvement work since 2010.
James McWilliam, sales manager at H&H Classics, said: “It’s very exciting to be hosting our first weekend auction at the Millbrook Proving Ground, especially with so many excellent British classics, and other noteworthy examples, going under the hammer. The event promises to be a fantastic celebration of automotive history attracting hundreds of enthusiasts and potential new owners”.
Other collectible classics from the UK’s shores to be offered include a 1962 Lotus Elite Series 2 SE which has been in single ownership for 57 years and is estimated at £30,000-£40,000, plus a 1965 Morris Mini Cooper MK1 with just one registered keeper in 61 years and 41,400 miles on its odometer. This has been given a guide price of £30,000-£35,000.
Not to be outdone is a 1951 Bentley MKVI HJ Mulliner Sports Saloon which was exhibited on the Bentley Motors stand at the 1951 Earl’s Court Motor Show and has previously featured in various films and television shows. It is being offered with an estimate of £12,000-£15,000.
Meanwhile, a 1986 Ford Escort RS Turbo, which has been subject to a seven-year restoration and given a guide price of £30,000-£35,000, is among the more modern offerings going under the hammer.
All lots will be available to view in person at the Millbrook Proving Ground, Bedfordshire, from midday on Saturday 9th May and from 9am on Sunday 10th May, while the sale then commences at midday.
Anyone looking to bid on one of the lots can do so in person, online, by telephone or by leaving a commission bid, while for more details about any of the cars or to register to bid, visit www.handh.co.uk.
