H&H June 22nd IWM Duxford Auction Grosses 2.4 Million With Catalogue Cover Ferrari Making £400,000

And Jaguar Sold To Benefit The Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal Raising £40,000

Having survived the Sheffield Blitz during WW2, 85-year-old Yorkshireman, Roy Hatfield, found it all too easy to empathise with the current plight of the Ukrainian people. Commissioning H&H Classics to put his beloved 1976 Jaguar XJ-C 4.2 under the hammer at their June 22nd 2022 IWM Duxford sale, he was delighted to see the £40,000 it raised for Ukraine

H&H chose to forego a vendor’s commission and donate the buyer’s premium to the cause too. Despite the national and international interest, it prompted, and the numerous bidders in the room and on the internet, the sleek Jaguar was bought by a telephone bidder from Yorkshire! In total, more than 600 people from over 20 countries registered to bid at the sale.

Gracing the catalogue cover, the star-of-the-show 1969 Ferrari 365GT rebodied in the style of a ‘pontoon fender’ Testa Rossa was sold to a UK collector for a near-top estimate of £393,750.

Also resplendent in Bright Red was the 1960 Jaguar XK150 S 3.8 Litre Drophead Coupe (1 of only 69 RHD examples made) which sold for £165,37.

Another 1960s icon and similarly rare in RHD (with only 78 examples being UK supplied), the 1965 Mercedes-Benz 300SE Cabriolet fetched £158,500.

A car with a chequered past but still a rare and highly desirable machine, the 1962 AC Ace 2.6 was a self-declared ‘woodsman’s axe’. Gorgeous to look at and fun to drive, it commanded £123,750.

Supplied new to Ralph Hawkes of Hawkes & Son, the renowned music publishing firm and acquired by its second owner Prince John Bryant Digby de Mahe in 1937, the 1926 Rolls-Royce 20hp Fixed Head Cabriolet was coming to market for the first time in 1971. Much loved and still highly original, it attracted a flurry of bids with a distant relative of Ralph Hawkes being pipped to the post when it sold for £30,375.
