The star car from the 1966 movie ‘Blow-Up’, when it was driven by actor David Hemmings, is to be auctioned by H&H Classics.
An iconic piece of 1960s movie history, the 1965 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III Drophead Coupe will go under the hammer on Wednesday 10th September at Kelham Hall in Newark, Nottinghamshire.
Its movie connection is further strengthened as it was also previously owned by one of the film’s co-producers, Pierre Rouve. The film, itself, also starred Vanesa Redgrave and Sarah Miles.
Estimated at £190,000-£230,000, its beautifully sleek profile is thanks to Norwegian-born stylist Vilhelm Koren, while this particular example has been extensively gone through by marque specialist P&A Wood prior to entering the current ownership in 2007.
Angus Fender, junior motorcar specialist at H&H Classics, said: “Blow-Up received widespread critical acclaim upon its release in 1966, winning the Palme d’Or at the 1967 Cannes Film Festival.
“The four-wheel star of the iconic film is this splendid Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III Mulliner Park Ward Drophead Coupe, driven by David Hemmings, who played fashion photographer Thomas.
“Our Kelham Hall Sale is a fantastic opportunity to bid for an important slice of silver screen history, and not least for a wonderful classic that is waiting to be enjoyed.”
This eye-catching classic, one of just forty-nine RHD cars bodied to Design No. 2045, has also been invited to the 2018 Goodwood Revival and 2024 Salon Prive Concours d’Elegance.
Angus added: “It’s a real thrill to offer this Rolls-Royce for auction, having such a central role in a cinematic masterpiece.
“I’m sure it will attract a lot of interest from movie aficionados and classic car enthusiasts alike, all wanting to own a stylish Rolls-Royce that demands attention wherever it goes.”
