H&H Classics achieved fantastic individual hammer prices and an impressive all-round performance at its largest Buxton auction to date.
The sale at the Pavilion Gardens in Derbyshire on Wednesday 15th October saw 158 lots go under the hammer, with 118 lots finding new homes, representing an impressive sales rate of 75 per cent and total sales of over £1.9 million.
Among the highlights of the successful auction was a 1968 Triumph TR5 ‘garage find’ restoration project which was hammered away for £21,375, more than £15,000 above its lower estimate.
Once again the lure of becoming the one to restore a classic to its former glory prompted a fierce bidding battle such that the ‘garage find’ car made almost as much as the roadworthy TR5 which changed hands the same day.
Enthusiasts seeking exceptional originality were keen to bid for a remarkable 1966 Sunbeam Tiger, which had been owned by the vendor since 1979 and shows just 10,200 miles from new.
Possibly the best-preserved example of its type in existence, the V8 sportscar fetched £54,000, which was £14,000 above its lower estimate.
Another Triumph, a 1949 Triumph 2000 Roadster, which was a ‘Best in Show winner at the 2019 Classic & Retro Show’, also commanded strong interest. Beautifully presented, it was successfully sold for £23,906, almost £12,000 above its lower estimate.
James McWilliam, sales manager at H&H Classics, said: “This was the largest Buxton auction we’ve ever held in our 30+ year history, so the sale was always going to be special.
“We’re delighted with how it went, not only with some notable individual sales, but also for wonderful attendance and the strong showing across the range of classic and performance motorcars that were offered for sale.”
Meanwhile, further flying the homegrown flag was a 1962 Jaguar Mk. II 3.8, which was extensively restored to show-winning condition in 2018-19, and which sold for £40,500, more than £12,000 above its lower estimate.
Other notable sales included a desirable 1970 Chevrolet Corvette C3 Stingray Convertible, which fetched £16,312, and a comprehensively restored 1983 Porsche 911 SC, which sold for £46,125. Both hammered away for more than £6,000 above their lower estimates.
Additionally, a charming 1923 Rolls-Royce 20hp Drophead Coupe with Dickey found a new home for £15,188, more than £5,000 above its lower estimate, and an exceptional 1998 Bentley Azure was hammered away for £64,667, more than £4,600 above its lower estimate.
James added: “Our next classic and performance car auction at the Millbrook Proving Ground in December is our last auction for 2025, and we’ll be looking to end the year in style, while also reflecting on a busy 12 months which has seen two new auction venues added to our calendar.”
