British icons lead the way at H&H’s first ever Millbrook

01/07/2025

  • H&H Classics hosted its debut auction at the historic Millbrook Proving Ground in Bedfordshire
  • All four of the eagerly anticipated Merlin Collection cars sold, led by a 1957 Bentley S1 Continental Fastback
  • A Rolls-Royce Silver Seraph and Jaguar E-Type V12 exceeded estimates, contributing to a strong £2 million total and 63% sale rate

All four cars from The Merlin Collection sold at H&H Classics’ debut Millbrook auction on Wednesday 25th June.

The star – a stunning 1957 Bentley S1 Continental Fastback – was snapped up immediately after the sale for a confidential sum close to its lower estimate. Meanwhile, also stealing the limelight were a low-mileage 2000 Rolls-Royce Silver Seraph and a 1974 Jaguar E-Type V12 Roadster, both roaring past their guide prices for £53,438 and £102,375 respectively.

Overall, nearly 80 classic, collector and performance motorcars worth a combined total of more than £2 million found new custodians when they were auctioned by H&H at the famous motoring venue in Bedfordshire, which saw a healthy 63 per cent sales rate.

James McWilliam, sales manager, H&H Classics, said: “The Millbrook Proving Ground is steeped in automotive history, so it was perhaps fitting that British icons performed so well at our inaugural auction in Bedfordshire.”

2009 Bentley Arnage R fetched £51,750, almost £10,000 above its lower estimate. It was described as ‘probably the best example on the market today’.

Other highly collectable cars to attract strong interest included an early three-dial short wheelbase 1966 Porsche 912 that fetched £40,500, which was £10,500 above its lower estimate.

Fast Ford fans also saw a very high standard 1980 Ford Escort RS 2000 find a new home for £49,500, that being £5,500 above its lower estimate.

James added: “We were delighted to hold our first ever auction at Millbrook with its fantastic facilities.

“Our next classic car auction takes place on July 30th in the familiar surroundings of the Pavilion Gardens in Buxton. We are currently accepting entries, so would be delighted to hear from classic car owners thinking about selling their vehicle.”
