A whimsical blast from the past: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang recreation heads to auction
A Chitty Chitty Bang Bang recreation is anticipated to incite excitement as it is set to go under the hammer at H&H Classics’ auction at the Pavilion Gardens, Buxton, on the 26 July.
The “Chitty” recreation’s charm is not the only thing that sets it apart. Its construction was a work of art, created with a focus on capturing the essence of the fanciful and fantastic original contraption featured in the beloved children’s story to a meticulous degree. This specific example is possibly the only “Chitty” built with genuine pre-WW2 components, further adding to its story.
Notably, this movie car recreation, unlike its on-screen counterpart, is not equipped with flight capabilities but does possess the ability to transport its occupants to a world of imagination and nostalgia.
Lucas Gomersall, vehicle specialist at H&H Classics commented, "Being trusted with the sale of such an iconic vehicle is a privilege. This is a truly unique piece of automotive history, with remarkable provenance, and is certain to be as much a delight to movie fans as it will be to car enthusiasts worldwide. The thorough attention to detail and unwavering commitment to creating a handsome evocation of the car, make this sale a one-off event.”
The vintage vehicle is also appropriately sold with the “FLY 539” registration plate and boasts a handmade, fully operational exhaust system. Keen enthusiasts will note that the car has been displayed at the London Classic Show 2023, the NEC Classic Car Show, and at various events around the country. The smart reproduction of the original movie car, a cherished symbol from many people's childhoods, invariably draws significant attention and admiration from the public whenever it is seen.
This captivating piece of automotive history will be one of over 130 lots to be featured at H&H Classics' sale at the Pavilion Gardens, Buxton, sale on the 26 July. Additional highlights include a 1910 Brush Model D, a 1929 Lagonda 2-Litre Low Chassis Speed Model Tourer, and the 1973/2021 Lister Jaguar 'Knobbly' Evocation.
