Introduced in August 1999, the second generation of Mercedes-Benz's CL-Class Coupe (C215) was derived from its contemporary S-Class (W220) albeit utilising an eight-inch shorter wheelbase. Equipped with Active Body Control suspension, Distronic cruise control, ABS disc brakes, Sat-Nav and a truly luxurious interior, the CL500 was powered by a 4966cc V8 engine allied to automatic transmission. With a quoted 321bhp and 339lbft of torque on tap, the four-seater Coupe was reputedly capable of 0-62mph in 6.1 seconds and 155mph.
