1970 Jensen Interceptor II

Lot details
Registration No: YVF985H
Chassis No: 123/3673
Mot Expiry: April 2010

Introduced at the October 1969 Earls Court Motor Show the Interceptor II reflected the influence of American troubleshooter Carl Duerr who had been drafted into the West Bromwich firm the previous year. Benefiting from the same mechanical refinements as the final version of the Interceptor I including: balljoint suspension, taller 2.88:1 rear axle ratio, high output alternator, power steering, radial tyres and Girling disc brakes, the newcomer also boasted a restyled dashboard, more comfortable seats and the option of air conditioning. Aside from a few detail changes, the 2+2 seater retained the same super-stylish, Touring-penned silhouette as its predecessor complete with 'goldfish bowl' rear windscreen and pronounced wing vents. Powered by a 383 cu in (6.3 litre) OHV Chrysler V8 engine allied to TorqueFlite automatic transmission, the Jensen was reputedly capable of 0-60mph in 6.4 seconds and 137mph. Popular among high rollers and celebrities, Interceptor IIs were bought new by the likes of Harold Robbins, Dusty Springfield, Tony Curtis, John Bonham, Lord Carrington, Ron Horton and Lord Strathcarron. Only in production for two years, just 1,128 are thought to have been made of which 694 were to right-hand drive specification.

Finished in blue with cream leather upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in "OK" condition with regard to its engine, automatic transmission, electrical equipment and interior trim. While, he rates the paintwork as "fair" and comments that there is "some minor corrosion on the offside front wing and offside rear wheelarch". Riding on correct type Rostyle wheels, this handsome Interceptor II is offered for sale with MOT certificate valid until April 2010 and historic class (free) road tax.
