After a lengthy gestation period, the now ubiquitous Porsche 911 entered production in 1964. The design was the work of Dr Ferry Porsche's eldest son, Ferdinand 'Butzi' Porsche and the company's joint founder and chief body engineer Erwin Komenda. The car featured rack and pinion steering and both torsion bar suspension and disc brakes all round. It was initially powered by a dry-sump, air-cooled, 2-litre, flat-six engine, overhung at the rear and allied to a five-speed manual transmission. The 911's wheelbase was increased by 57 mm in 1968 and the engine capacity increased to 2.2-litres a year later.
This particular right-hand drive 911T is a 1971 Sportomatic that was purchased by the vendor from the H&H sale of June 2011. It is understood that £14,700 had been invested in it during the previous year, that included a new door skin, c.£4,000 worth of paint refurbishment and c.£3,500 allocated to stripping and rebuilding the automatic gearbox. Recent work has included the fitting of a new brake master cylinder, spark plugs and points, and the rebalancing of the carburettors. The Porsche is finished in Orange complemented by Black upholstery and the vendor says it "drives well" and is selling it complete with an assortment of previous MOTs and one valid until May 2013.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
