Unusually, DMW actually started production in Wolverhampton during the Second World War, making suspension components for rigid-framed bikes made by other manufacturer, progressing into building complete machines under their own brand from 1947.
Like so many Midland bike makers, most DMWs were powered by Villiers 2-stroke engines, their most notable model being the Dolomite 250 twin. Although road model production officially ended in 1966, the Wolves firm continued to make trials bikes on a limited edition basis.
The entrant of the 1966-built DMW Deemster being offered here tells us that this ex-police bike is complete apart from lacking telephone and blue lights. The 250cc motor fitted is a Villiers 2T twin-cylinder which was the standard equipment for a bike supplied, like this one, to the Scottish police.
In regulation black with gold-finished wheels, this British rarity would make a quirky exhibit for a Museum and might have some income potential as a period extra in film and TV dramas. Any well stocked collection would be greatly enhanced by the addition of this Deemster.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
