Lot details Registration No: AVG614W Chassis No: LOOR1578 Mot Expiry: Feb 2006
Aston Martin Lagonda launched their sensational looking Lagonda with its William Towns styled wedged-shaped and sporting, though luxurious GT-saloon body for four in 1976. Under the ultra-low bonnet was the well tried Aston 5.4-litre V8. It was not until 1978, however, that the movers and shakers of the time were able to get their hands on one of these high tech and talking point cars. In 1987, the razor-sharp lines were softened and larger alloys fitted and, after 600 had been built, production ended in 1989. During the thirteen year run, such was the uncontrolled inflation of the period, Lagonda prices rose from £24,570 to more than £85,000!
This Aston Martin Lagonda, a right-hand drive four-door auto, was hand-built in the Newport Pagnell works at the beginning of 1981. The original brown paintwork has been changed to the current blue, the bodywork is described by the vendor as perfect, with panels, repaint and magnolia leather interior all in excellent condition.
Following a full rebuild, the 5340cc engine is reportedly in excellent order, the automatic transmission working perfectly and, rare for this extremely sophisticated vehicle, the huge quantity of electrical equipment is claimed also to be in perfect working order.
The 41,716 mileage displayed when entered is believed by the vendor to be the genuine total since new. AVG 614W was last successfully MOT tested earlier in the year, so the current certificate will be valid until next February. This lot provides auction-goers with a rare opportunity to acquire one of the most extraordinary supercars of the 1980s.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
