Introduced in late 1934, the Vauxhall DX 14/6 was notable for being among the first British-built cars to feature independent front suspension and an all-synchromesh manual gearbox. Powered by a 1781cc straight-six engine that boasted overhead valvegear, coil ignition and some 42bhp @ 3,500rpm, the Vauxhall was reputedly capable of 70mph. Restyled for the 1937-model year, it gained a waterfall grille and 'easy clean' wheels. Although, available with various coachbuilt bodystyles, the vast majority of DX 14/6s were sold as factory-bodied saloons. Entering the current ownership during September 1993, this coachbuilt Drophead Coupe example was taken off the road just a few months later. Dry stored since then, the four-seater is variously rated by the vendor as `original' (paintwork, black leather upholstery), `good' (1.8-litre 6cyl engine, 4-speed gearbox, bodywork) or `believed OK' (electrical equipment). A potentially rewarding project it will require recommissioning prior to road use.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
