Lot details Registration No: RCP250X Chassis No: WFOCXXGAECBR02725 Mot Expiry: April 2006
Introduced in March 1978, the MKIII Capri was aerodynamically superior to its predecessors. Boasting a restyled front end complete with quad headlights, an elongated bonnet lip and louvered grille, it also carried revised rear lights and new side mouldings. Equipped with Macpherson strut independent front suspension, a leaf-sprung 'live' rear axle, disc / drum brakes and rack and pinion steering as standard, the new model was praised by the contemporary motoring press for its lively and engaging handling. Powered by a variety of four- and six-cylinder engines ranging size from 1.3 to 3.0 litres, the latter unit was credited with 134bhp and 178lbft of torque. Allied to four-speed manual transmission, it endowed the 2+2 coupe with the ability to sprint from 0-60mph in 8.5 seconds and onto 122mh (or so Ford claimed).
Finished in black with black leather / tartan cloth upholstery, this particular 3.0 S example is variously described by the vendor as being in "very good" (V6 engine, manual gearbox, electrical equipment, chassis, wheels / tyres) or "excellent" (interior trim, bodywork, paintwork) condition. Said to have been "fully restored" by its previous keeper in preparation for an Australian tour - one that sadly never took place due to the intervention of cancer - it entered the current ownership during June 1998. Reportedly garaged ever since and only used in summer, the Ford is believed but not warranted to have covered 54,267 miles from new. Riding on alloy wheels, this well presented 3.0 Sport is offered for sale entirely without reserve but with "all receipts for restoration" and MOT certificate valid until 28th April 2006
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
