The 400 was a development of the 2+2 sized 365GT4 launched in 1972 and was aimed at the luxury saloon car buyer particularly in the US. Introduced to the press at the 1976 Paris Salon, the 4823cc 12-cylinder powered 400 was available with 5-speed manual gearbox or, for the first time, 3-speed automatic transmission. Power output was 340bhp at 6500rpm; suspension, independent all round, with coil springs and telescopic shock absorbers, and discs brakes all round. After 502 standard 400s had been built, all with carburettor-equipped V12 engines, fuel injection was employed from 1979 for the 400i, most of which were purchased by European Ferrari buyers.
The 1983 400i offered here is a right-hand drive auto in blue with tan interior. Although in storage for the past six years, the overall condition, says the Manchester vendor, is still good. Pininfarina-styled, and with glorious sounding V12 engine as well as ample accommodation for four, the 400i is ideal for high speed, long distance motoring and represents great value for money.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
