Lot details Registration No: VAS 699 Chassis No: 150814DN Mot Expiry: Oct 2004
It was in 1956 that Jaguar brought out a brand new generation of smaller sporting saloons, no longer with separate chassis and bodies, but employing unitary construction bodyshells. The first model in the new range was fitted with a 2.4-litre 6-cylinder engine based on the legendary XK motor, which powered both the legendary XK120 of 1951-1955 and the newly launched X140 replacement, though with shorter stroke. A year later, in 1957, the 2.4 MkI saloon was joined by a 3.4-litre powered version and, from 1958, the restyled Mk2 with much thinner pillars came to market.
The Mk2 3.4 on offer was made at the Browns Lane works 15 February 1960. According to factory records, this right-hand drive saloon was originally turned out in grey with grey leather. With manual transmission and overdrive, it was first supplied to South African Jaguar dealers Sagers.
According to the Yorkshire vendor, both bodywork and blue paintwork are in very good condition. The now blue leather interior is said to be also very good and 3.4-litre 6-cylinder engine and 4-speed manual gearbox in very good order. The wires have been shod with new tyres and the exhaust is stainless steel. The 52,790 mileage when entered is believed to be the genuine total from new. The MOT is current until next October and there is a Production Record Trace confirming manufacturing details, both certificates included in the history file.
