Apparently inspired by the Peugeot Quadrilette, the now immortal Austin Seven was announced in 1922. Taken to heart by the British public, it then remained in production until 1939, during which time some 290,000 were produced. It was also manufactured under licence in France, Germany, Japan and America.
The utterly charming Seven now on offer is a true 'time warp' example that is understood to have had just two keepers and covered a mere 49,568 miles from new. It was manufactured in 1931 though was not registered to its first owner, a Mr Albert Pitcher, until 1933. It was acquired by the vendor in 1969 following Mr Pitcher's death, at which point the odometer stood at 47,683 - a fact confirmed in a letter written by the first owner's son. We understand the Austin underwent a restoration during 1970 which saw its exterior refinished in Maroon but its original Green/Grey upholstery preserved. The vendor currently classes the Saloon bodywork, 747cc engine and three-speed manual transmission as all being in 'very good' condition and the paintwork as 'good', and is now offering 'WP 3682' complete with all its original tools, some books, a poster and the original logbook. Surely a golden opportunity for Austin Seven enthusiasts everywhere.
