After a twelve year absence, the MG sportscar made a comeback when Rover launched their V8-powered MGB-based MGR V8, which was pitched at the nostalgia-hungry Far East markets with 1579 being lapped up by Japanese enthusiasts. Employing a Heritage-made shell with Rover 3.9-litre eight-cylinder engine, five-speed manual transmission and luxurious interior with lots of wood and leather, some 2000 were produced.
This righthand drive 1994-built MG was repatriated directly from Japan and UK registered with the current plates. Much enjoyed by its enthusiastic current keeper, sportscar and owner have attended many events during the summer including the MGCC Silverstone race meeting, MG Tour and Shelsey Walsh hillclimb.
The Woodcote Green convertible is claimed still to be in superb original condition with the 39,000 mileage recorded on the odometer when entered for this auction believed by the vendor to be the genuine total from new as authenticated by full service history on file. The car is certainly very well equipped, having beige leather interior, really effective soft-top and full tonneau cover as well as air-conditioning and CD player.
The two-door bodyshell, above and below, is in very good shape, the paintwork very good and the interior and trim also good. The mechanical condition is said to be excellent, too, with V8 motor and gearbox both reportedly in good order. The current MOT will be valid until next June and the tax disc will not require renewal until December.
PLEASE NOTE: In the catalogue it suggested that the mileage was 64283 miles whereas in fact it should read kilometers - hence 39000 miles or thereabouts is warranted from new. (The speedometer conversion kit is also with the car)
