1996 Honda NSX

Sold for £15,750

(including buyers premium)

Lot details
Registration No: N16 NSX
Chassis No: NA1-1001764
Mot Expiry: July 2010

The NSX was handbuilt in Honda's dedicated Takanezawa factory at a rate of only 25 per day, making it as exclusive as the Ferrari 348 from the same period. The mid-engined two-seater was loaded with all the latest must-have technology, and appeared the logical and informed choice for those wanting an everyday supercar. The bodyshell and suspension were fabricated in aluminium, though the panel gaps were what you'd expect from Honda, with a resultant lack of wind noise, leaks or fragility. The creamy-smooth 2977cc V6 ran sequential multipoint injection and the first iteration of variable valve timing, under the VTEC banner. The R&D strides Honda had made in F1 were being put into practice on the NSX. Speed sensitive electric power steering was another advanced addition giving the driver enviable control regardless of whether the car was tackling a supermarket car park or Alpine switchback. A good NSX is one of the unsung greats. Its sheer ability and durability will endure, and every time you drive it, the car will remind you why you made the head decision to chase the underdog Japanese design. For anyone who appreciates fine engineering cerebrally, the Honda is a delight.
It's not an emotional car - it doesn't have to be, and this example features the superb autobox, really, why would you want to change the gears yourself in a supercar this techno-savvy? Believed but not warranted to have covered 39,312 miles since being imported in 2004, `N16 NSX' was declared manufactured eight years earlier. Late wheels are fitted, so the front tyres are 16-inch and the rears 17-inch, but the NSX rides superbly considering the size of its performance envelope. Numerous toys are present including: ABS, traction control, climate control (just serviced), driver's airbag, power windows / seats / mirrors and Bose factory fit stereo (though, the latter has a radio fault). Finished in Formula Red with Slate Grey leather upholstery, the Honda is described by the vendor as being in "good" (engine, autobox, electrical equipment, interior trim) or "excellent" (bodywork, paintwork) condition. While, he notes that there is "some slight wear to the driver's seat". If you've only space for one supercar in your garage, then an NSX will deliver those supercar experiences - passing crowded pubs on a Saturday night, heading off to the Nurburgring on a slack weekend, - yet incur little debilitating pain at service time. Supercar performance never looked as easy again - offered for sale with original spare wheel, handbook and MOT certificate valid until July 2010.
