The Scott Motorcycle Company was founded by Alfred Angus Scott in 1909 and greatly enhanced by TT wins in 1912 and 1913. The marque has a reputation for innovation with Scott bikes always being rather different from the rest of the pack with most water-cooled. Scotts have deservedly magnetised a loyal and faith band of enthusiastic owners.
According to a copy of the Scott works records held in VMCC archives, this Flying Squirrel with frame number 4757 and engine number DPY 4856 was first despatched by LMS passenger train to Sizes Motors of Southport 18 March 1947. The vendor tells us that the 600cc twin-cylinder two-stroke machine was last restored in 2002 as a result of which frame, paint, brightwork, suspension and cycle parts are all said to be good. The engine is in good order as is the transmission with recently renewed chain. The electrics are allegedly good, too, with magneto reconditioned, while the MOT was only renewed in September.
Sadly, Scott was forced into voluntary liquidation in 1950, although the production and marketing rights were purchased by Matt Holder, Birmingham owner of Aerco Jigs and Tools.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
