Ducati's desmo singles have, from their inception, proved successful in competition, either in production form, or as is the case with the example offered, converted to road racing form.
This example, displacing near to 500cc features bore and stroke of 90mm x 75 and an 11.2:1 compression ratio with a twin spark head. The engine has been built using Staschel components including the cam, crank, flywheels, barrel, valves and rockers. Ignition is provided by an electronic Lucas Rita system and the air/petrol mixture is controlled by a 41mm Dell 'Orto carburettor. A Staschel dry clutch is coupled to the five speed transmission to the J18 x 2.15 Excel alloy rear wheel, equipped with a new Avon AM22 and the front J18 x 1.85 Excel alloy being fitted with a new Avon AM20. A 210mm front brake, believed to be a Fontana unit, fitted with race linings is partnered by a similarly equipped standard Ducati rear brake. Suspension is provided by a set of 35mm Ceriani forks and a new set of Falcon Classic rear shock absorbers.
The standard tubular frame is graced with an attractive alloy fuel tank and humped racing saddle.
The condition of the transmission and frame/suspension is described by the vendor as being good, with very good cosmetics, whilst the engine is a "fresh build".
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
