Lot details Registration No: A230LLP Chassis No: SADDRLW3CC390797 Mot Expiry: Mar 2007
Introduced in 1979 alongside the rest of the Daimler Series III range, the Double Six was renowned for its sophisticated ride / handling balance and eerily smooth drivetrain. Praised by the contemporary motoring press, it drew favourable comparison with the likes of the Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit, Bentley Mulsanne and Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Based around a four-door monocoque bodyshell equipped with all round independent suspension, four-wheel disc brakes and power assisted steering, it was powered by a 5343cc SOHC V12 engine mated to three-speed automatic transmission. Deceptively quick, it was reputedly capable of 150mph.
Finished in metallic green with doeskin leather upholstery, this particular example is variously described by the vendor as being in "all working" (electrical equipment), "good" (bodywork), "very clean" (interior trim) or "very good" (engine, paintwork, alloy wheels / tyres) condition - while, its automatic gearbox is stated to have "no problems". Said to have been "previously owned by the Rausing family" and to have covered 69,200 miles from new (though, its replacement speedometer shows just 4,561 miles), the Daimler also apparently benefits from "exceptional service history". Reportedly "in storage - last year", it is offered for sale with MOT certificate valid until March 21st 2007.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
