In the same year that Colin Chapman introduced the monocoque 25 single-seater, the Lotus chief launched his 1962 Elan with sheet steel backbone chassis as a replacement for the all-GRP Elite. Whereas the Elite used a Coventry Climax engine, the Elan was fitted with one built by Lotus, the 1558cc Twin Cam based on a Ford 4-cylinder block. Along with a Mk2 version, an additional, stretched and widened 2+2 Elan appeared from 1967.
Here is an unusual opportunity (two Elans for the price of one project in fact!), with a 1968-built Elan Plus 2 as well as a second donor which is said to be complete with body and newly supplied replacement chassis. The vendor claims that, by combining these barn finds, a superb 4-seater fixed head Lotus can be achieved.
The main car's plastic coupe bodywork is described as being in average condition with red paintwork poor. The beige interior is said to be complete, and both 1558cc twin cam motor and 4-speed manual gearbox also in average order.
