Lot details
Registration No: XRW 52J
Chassis No: 1570399BW
Mot Expiry: May 2005

The 1961-launched Jaguar E Type caused a sensation. By 1964, capacity increased from 3781cc to 4235cc for the Series 2, which, from 1966, had an auto-shift option. In 1971, an even more torquey 5343cc 272bhp V12 appeared under the bonnet of the Series 3 version. This was the first quantity-production twelve-cylinder engine since the 1948 demise of the Lincoln Continental and, most importantly for the Midlands car maker and exporter, Jaguar's twelve was fully compliant with emission regulations on both sides of the Atlantic. Available as open roadster or 2+2 fixed head coupe, 15,287 were built.
As confirmed by a receipt on file, this 1971-built Series 3 V12 convertible was purchased by the current owner's father from XK Engineering in November 1994, since when the leading marque specialists have carried out a full rebuild, again there being documents detailing work done among the paperwork. We are advised by the vendor that, since restoration, XRW 525 has only been driven during the summer months and, when not in use, has always been parked in a heated garage.
The condition of monocoque and front chassis framework is described as very good with silver paintwork said to be mint and only some small indentations to the front number plate. The interior trimmed out in burgundy leather is also mint as are 5343cc twelve-cylinder motor, three-speed automatic transmission and electrical equipment. The 61,060 mileage displayed when entered is believed by the vendor to be the genuine total from new. MOT and tax disc are valid until next May.
PLEASE NOTE: The photograph used is of a similar vehicle.
