Lot details Registration No: CFD654J Chassis No: GHN5234228G Mot Expiry: Dec 2007
Introduced in 1962, the MGB Roadster enjoyed an eighteen-year production run. With nicely balanced handling and a good turn of speed, it merited the old MG marketing slogan 'Safety Fast'. Based around a monocoque chassis featuring independent coil-sprung front suspension and a leaf-sprung 'live' rear axle, its 1798cc 'B' series four-cylinder engine was allied to four-speed manual transmission. Capable of over 100mph (especially if specified with overdrive), the provision of disc/drum brakes and rack and pinion steering greatly aided control. Today, it enjoys a very strong following and with its GT sister has spawned a dedicated support industry making it among the most practical and cost effective of all classic cars.
Finished in Primrose Yellow with black leather upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in "good overall" condition. While in the previous ownership for six years 'CFD 645J' is said to have undergone "a major bodywork restoration including having its sills, boot floor and body panels replaced as required". Reportedly further benefiting from "a new radiator / hoses, rejuvenated heater, refurbished front / rear suspension and overhauled brakes" as well as "a reconditioned steering rack, starter motor, carburettors, instruments and distributor", the Roadster is understood to "drive very well". Cosmetically enhanced via "a new windscreen, hood, leather seats and wire wheels", the MG's impressive specification also encompasses "a rollbar, overdrive, Kenwood stereo, tonneau cover, Motolita steering wheel and alloy rocker cover". Generously equipped, this smart MGB Roadster is offered for sale with MOT certificate valid until December 20th 2007.
