The E Type replacing XJS appeared in Jaguar dealer showrooms from 1975. Sharing much of its running gear with the XJ6 and XJ12 saloons, albeit with shortened wheelbase, and either a 3.6-litre six or a 5.3-litre twelve underbonnet, the Malcolm Sayer styled model was much more of a grand tourer with a decent-sized boot than an out-and-out sportscar. There were fixed head, T-top cabrio and convertible versions.
This is a 1986-built and righthand drive XJS 3.6 cabriolet on alloys, a factory produced cabrio and not an aftermarket conversion, with the benefit of occasional rear seating in leather. Performance of the 3-6-litre 6-cylinder motor has been further enhanced by an adjustable ECU. Current condition of the 2-door bodyshell is described as being A+ and the same goes for body panels, painted steel blue, and leather interior in beige edged in blue. The electrical equipment is said to work well, while both engine and 5-speed manual transmission are reportedly in A+ order.
This car, a relatively rare model, and its history have been well documented.. The current owner, a retired engineer, tells us that he is the fifth owner, the first an Engineering company, the second a lady JP, the third an unknown keeper and the fourth N Thornley, a founder member of the Jaguar Enthusiasts Club. The 67,515 mileage indicated when entered for this auction is believed by the owner to be the genuine total from new.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
