Morris Motors of Cowley were one of the major players of the British motor industry in the prewar years. Owner William Morris, who is recognized by motoring historians as the man who put Britain on wheels, was later to become Lord Nuffield. Impressively, by 1925, annual car production had risen to 54,000, giving Morris a 41 per cent market share and making them the number one car maker in the UK. Morris progressively added most of his component suppliers to a growing portfolio, to which he added Wolseley in 1927. The Morris range had also become mighty impressive, the mainstays being the older Cowley and the Oxford.
According to the Cheshire vendor, the 1928-built Oxford 3/4-seater drophead coupe offered here was subjected to an extensive renovation by the previous owner during a 23 year ownership. The body was rebuilt to the current style by the Cook Group who, it is believed, also carried out a retrim. The mechanical items were checked through and, where necessary, refurbished at this time, and the car is said to have done very little mileage since this restoration work was carried out.
The current condition of chassis, bodywork, blue over black paintwork, 4-cylinder engine and 3-speed manual gearbox is said to be good and the blue trim very good. The VO 5566 registration - which is known to and recorded by the Bullnose Morris Club - is original to this characterful motor car.
