Lot details Registration No: DSJ 816 Chassis No: TS54089 Mot Expiry: T.B.A.
Final evolution of the Triumph TR2/TR3 sportscar line (save for the American market TR3B), the TR3A was introduced in September 1957. Great fun to drive, its tough boxed section chassis featured independent coil and wishbone front suspension, a leaf sprung 'live' rear axle and disc / drum brakes. Fitted with a 1991cc four-cylinder OHV unit developing some 104bhp and 117lbft of torque, it was reputedly capable of 104mph. A great sales success on both sides of the Atlantic, the model provided a rather more visceral alternative to its MG and Jaguar competition.
Finished in British Racing Green with green leather upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in "good" condition with regard to its engine, four-speed manual plus overdrive gearbox, electrical equipment, interior trim, bodywork and wheels / tyres (while, he rates the paintwork as "excellent"). Reportedly the subject of "a ground-up restoration" some nine years ago during which it was converted from left- to right-hand drive 'DSJ 816' is understood to have covered 17,000 miles since work was completed. Able to boast various upgrades including rack-and-pinion steering, front disc brakes and overdrive on 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears, the roadster is also reputed to benefit from an enlarged 2138cc cylinder capacity. Sporting a black hood / sidescreens, leather-rimmed steering wheel and silver painted wire wheels, this smart TR3A is offered for sale with valid MOT certificate and historic class (free) road tax.
