The front-engined, liquid-cooled 928, was introduced to the fiercely loyal 911 fanbase as a potential replacement for the air-cooled icon in 1977. Under the bonnet was a silky-smooth V8, initially of 4.5-litres capacity an 240bhp, with 5-speed manual transaxle or 3-speed auto-shift. For those for whom 0-62mph in 7.5sec and 141mph were not fast enough, there was the 310bhp S2 with 4-speed auto, further uprated as the S3, before the 1986 S4 with 320bhp double ohc, 4-valves per cylinder, 5-litre motor and 170mph top speed potential.
This 1991 928 S4 has factory-fit electric sunroof, CD player and alarm. The current owner acquired it in May 2001 by when three previous owners had driven it 48,000 miles. Full service history is on file, while the cambelts were changed at 42,000 miles and regular oil changes and a full service have been carried out by marque specialists 930 Sport. Battery and tyres have been renewed.
The current condition of bodyshell, finished in metallic grey, is described as excellent as are alloy wheels and grey leather interior. Both 5-litre 8-cylinder engine and 4-speed automatic transmission are reportedly in excellent order too. This German supercar has proved to be totally reliable, claims the owner, while the 66,400 miles indicated when entered for the sale are believed by her to be the genuine total mileage from new. This is a lovely example of the 928 S4.
