Lot details Registration No: MBF331H Chassis No: PIR43657BW Mot Expiry: April 2006
Introduced in 1969, the Jaguar E-type Series II could be had in Roadster, Fixed Head Coupe or Fixed Head Coupe 2+2 guises. Known in America as the XKE Family Coupe or XKE Sedan, this latter variant had a notably airy feel courtesy of its stretched wheelbase and raised roofline. Equipped with a pair of small rear seats, it otherwise benefited from the same fully independent suspension, rack and pinion steering and disc brakes as its two-seater brethren. Powered by a 4235cc dohc straight-six engine developing a quoted 265bhp and 283lbft of torque, it was the only Series II model available with optional three-speed automatic transmission.
Finished in red with magnolia upholstery, this particular 2+2 is said to have been the "subject of major restoration with bills amounting to somewhere in the region of £30,000". A "rare automatic car" that was re-imported to the UK and converted from left- to right-hand drive, it boasts a "highly detailed engine bay" and "new chrome wire wheels". Treated to a full leather interior (even down to the boot floor) by a "special Rolls-Royce trimmer", it is reportedly "very practical and easy to drive in today's traffic". A "classic example of one of the prettiest sportscars of all time", it is offered for sale with "substantial file" (including a photographic record of the rebuild), MOT certificate valid until April 10th 2006 and road tax.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
