Lot details Registration No: RSK 979 Chassis No: 5837346DN Mot Expiry: Nov 2005
This XK 150 3.4-litre drophead first left Jaguar's Coventry works in 1958. It is suggested that the open coupe may have been owned by a Hollywood movie star for two or three years, but was certainly repatriated from sunny California in 1990.
On its return to the UK, the two-door car was subjected to an extensive and back to chassis rebuild, which involved dismantling every nut and bolt. We understand that everything was inspected and, where necessary, renewed with nothing left to chance. Engine, cooling system, transmission and brakes were sent away to be reconditioned or replaced. Bills detailing the work in the documents file can be inspected by potential owners during viewing at Stoneleigh.
The 75,000 miles displayed on the odometer when entered for this sale is believed by the current owner to be the genuine total mileage from new. He insists that RSK 979 has never been out in the rain, only being used during the summer months and, in the winter, has been carefully preserved from damp and corrosion in a Carcoon.
Having been fully serviced by a Jaguar specialist, current mechanical, electrical and cosmetic condition is reportedly superb, the multiple coats of paint applied over a period of six months really showing in the lustre of the white paintwork. Pristine, too, reportedly is the navy blue leather interior with pure wool mohair hood. Having left-hand drive steering has been a deliberate choice, says the vendor, as much Continental touring was envisaged for this 150 drophead, which, as you can see for yourself, is really super.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
