Such was the popularity of the Karmann-styled TR6, particularly in export markets, which were led by the US that a total of 94,619 were built between September 1974 and October 1981. This was the first of the TRs to have headlights positioned at the corners, the tail being radically redesigned with wrap-round rear lamps. Although power was reduced to 124bhp for the 1973-1981 built cars, earlier cars had the advantage of 150bhp engines.
The 1970-manufactured TR6 being auctioned here, a right-hand drive car, has had wings, suspension components and ball joints renewed, and the exhaust is made from stainless steel. The 2.5-litre 6-cylinder engine is therefore a 150bhp power unit, this particular car running on carburetors. Also included, however, are the original fuel injection equipment, which could be employed to replace the carbs if required, and a spare cylinder head, only requiring valve stem seal renewal. In addition to the standard soft-top, the car also has the benefit of a hardtop.
According to the South Yorkshire entrant, the bodywork is currently in very good condition with new green paintwork and black interior. Both engine and 4-speed manual gearbox are reportedly in very good order too. Whilst the 42,657 miles displayed when entered for this sale is believed to be the genuine total mileage for this car from new and the MOT test certificate is current until next September. The sports car qualifies, of course, for a Road Fund exempt tax disc.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
