Lot details Registration No: VBH202L Chassis No: V8/10721/RCA Mot Expiry: None
It was always intended by Aston Martin that their DBS be powered by a new V8 engine, but manufacturing a much more complex power unit in-house had proved much more difficult than first imagined and the car first appeared with the DB6 4-litre six-cylinder instead, the S not performing as well as the preceding DB6. There were no complaints from Aston fans, however, when the 5340cc 4-cam V8 finally arrived under DBS bonnets in 1969. The first dedicated and V8-badged Aston Martin V8 appeared in 1972, the year in which David Brown off-loaded his shares in return for Company Developments settling Aston's £5m debts.
This former UK car, righthand drive two-door GT, was a resident of Johannesburg for many years. The V8-powered fixed head was bodily refurbishment in 2003 with minor chassis repairs, as required, and full bare metal repaint in Tankard Grey. The interior has been retrimmed in Claret leather with grey headlining and Wilton carpets. Suspension and brakes have been overhauled and 5340cc eight recommissioned with good oil pressure showing. Air conditioning was added to original specification.
With the car are restoration photos and a Heritage certificate confirming manufacturing details. It was also hoped that a full year's MOT will be in place by sale day as well as confirmation of the VHB 202L registration, for which, when entered, DVLC documents had yet to be received. Potential buyers are therefore advised to check out the latest paperwork in our documents office at Buxton.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
