The early seventies witnessed a great deal of interest in the Wankel rotary engine in both automotive and motorcycle fields. The inherently simple engine design promised high revs and good torque, unfortunately, problems concerning rotor tip wear necessitated liquid cooling, particularly with larger capacity engines, adding complexity and weight to the completed machine which negated many of the benefits inherent in the design.
The RE5 encapsulated all the advantages and disadvantages. It was smooth with good acceleration and performance for its nominal capacity, however it was also complex, heavy, expensive and endowed with a voracious thirst resulting in limited sales.
This example is offered in need of restoration. The original blue fuel tank, side-panels and headlamp shell are complimented by new orange items, and a new exhaust system accompany the original system. Other new items, many of which are in the original Suzuki packaging include an ignition coil, rear light lens, oil filter, instrument cover, diagnostic tool, indicators and rear mudguard. The original rear mudguard with light unit and number-plate are also with the machine. A Swansea V5 and some expired MOT certificates accompany the bike.
PLEASE NOTE: THERE IS NO CURRENT V5 WITH THIS VEHICLE.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
