Lot details Registration No: 861 CXP Chassis No: SXA135 Mot Expiry: Dec 2012
Rolls-Royce launched the Silver Cloud in April 1955. Though the retention of a separate chassis allowed for the production of bespoke bodies, all but 157 of the 2,360 Cloud Is produced featured the in-house offering - a steel shell with aluminium doors, bonnet and boot lid.
This particular right hand drive example - chassis number SXA135 - is not only one of the rare 157, but one of just 18 understood to have been clothed in body design 'SC10' by the renowned coachbuilder James Young and, being one of the later examples features the more restrained fins. Though recently repatriated from the USA, it is to RHD specification with MPH speedometer and has apparently completed 1,000 miles of trouble-free motoring since its return. The vendor informs us that "the Rolls is in solid condition and running very strongly, with good oil pressure and water temperature; the gearbox could be smoother but is improving with use; the steering is precise and the car sits well on its springs; the brakes work well; the chassis lubrication operates correctly; the panels are straight and the aluminium in good condition; the paint is micro blistered; the woodwork is original and has suffered some peeling; the interior trim is original aside from some of the seat squab upholstery". '861 CXP' is taxed and MOT'd into December.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
