The RC45 was introduced in 1994 as a replacement for the seminal RC30. The new model was clearly a development of its predecessor retaining many of the its features including the single sided swinging arm, aluminium frame and capacity, however Honda took the opportunity to incorporate new technology, among them programmed fuel injection, upside down forks and improve the concept in other areas, the cooling system featured two radiators and the six speed gearbox was improved. Despite these changes, the Honda struggled against the larger capacity Ducati, securing only one Superbike World Championship in 1997.
This machine is presented in Castrol race colours and is prepared for race/track use. It is fitted with a number of HRC race kit parts together with an alloy fuel tank, rearsets and a magnesium clutch cover. The bike was originally exported to Italy and owned by a Superbike team based in Bergamo, possibly the Rumi team, although this has not been confirmed. It was subsequently imported into the UK where it has benefited from some attention. The forks and rear shock absorber have been overhauled by K-Tech, Kevlar air ducts have been fitted as have 17" Technogamesium wheels, a works steering damper and Termig??? Exhaust system. It has subsequently been used for track days by the vendor who describes this rare and eye catching classic as being in good condition throughout.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
